PhD student – ATLAS group
The IFIC – ATLAS Group offers a PhD position on experimental physics (data analysis) on the interactions of the Higgs boson to top quarks.
The Instituto de Física Corpuscular IFIC – Severo Ochoa Excellence Centre, a joint research institute of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Valencia, invites applications for a PhD student to pursue doctoral studies on the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC and with starting date late Summer or Autumn of 2019.
The IFIC hosts very strong experimental and theory groups covering a wide variety of topics in Particle, Astroparticle and Nuclear Physics, which participate in several international experiments as well as in the applications of these disciplines to other fields of Science and Technology. Further information about the institute and research interests can be found in the website http://ific.uv.es
Applicants must hold a Master degree (or equivalent) in Physics or in similar field, or expect to hold such a degree by September 15th 2019. Applicants are expected to have a strong commitment to forefront research lines in particle physics.
Applicants should send a single pdf including the following documents: motivation letter, CV, academic transcripts and contacts of two possible persons to supply letter of recommendations.
Applications received before July 3rd 2019 will be considered. Applications and possible further inquiries should be addressed to the e-mail given below.
The main topic of the PhD thesis will be the study of the interactions of the Higgs boson to top quarks using data recorded by the ATLAS detector, which require sophisticated data analysis (machine learning, statistical tools, state-of-the art theoretical predictions and global fit for new physics interpretations).
