# Prof. Alessandro Vicini visits IFIC from 2nd to 3rd May 2024

Alessandro Vicini is Associate Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Department of Physics of the University of Milano. After getting his PhD from the University of Padova in 1996 under the supervision of Ferruccio Feruglio, he moved as a postdoc to DESY, Karlsruhe and Milano where he eventually became staff member of the Physics Department. He has been CERN Scientific Associate and has held a visiting position at the Universite’ Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris). His research activities are focused on the Precision Tests of the Standard Model of the strong and electroweak interactions with particular attention to the LHC physics program. He is one of the theory contacts of the CERN Electroweak working group, constantly promoting the communication between the experimental and the theoretical communities, as a crucial element needed to perform a consistent analysis and a sensible interpretation of the experimental data in terms of the basic parameters of the Standard Model lagrangian. He is author of several Monte Carlo event generators extensively used by the CERN experiments to study the Higgs and gauge boson production processes. He is an expert in the field of radiative corrections at 1- and 2-loop level, and very interested in the development of the mathematical tools necessary to describe higher-order quantum corrections. He is in charge of the NVIDIA Research and Teaching Center of the University of Milano, for the development of parallel computing on GPUs.

At the topical seminar on May 3rd at 15h (Europe/Madrid), Alessandro Vicini will give a talk entitled: "Precision electroweak phenomenology at the LHC". More information about his talk can be found here: https://indico.ific.uv.es/event/7565/
