The city of Valencia, with the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC)—a joint centre of the CSIC and the University of Valencia—as the local organizer, hosted the 9th edition of the international ANIMMA conference (Advancements in Nuclear Instrumentation, Measurement Methods and their Applications) from 9 to 13 June 2025. This is one of the most relevant scientific events in the field of advanced instrumentation.

ANIMMA 2025 brought together 356 participants from 27 different countries across research, engineering, technology and industry to present and discuss the latest innovations in instrumentation and measurement techniques: from advanced sensors to integrated analysis systems and AI applications.

The event included six plenary sessions, over 150 oral presentations and around 250 scientific posters, hands-on workshops, industry meetings and a summer school in instrumentation (AISS), with 24 students and 12 practical experimental sessions held at IFIC, consolidating the interdisciplinary and applied approach that characterizes this conference.

The conference organization, led by Gabriela Llosá (CSIC Scientific Researcher at IFIC) as chair of the local organizing committee and Carlos Mariñas (CSIC Tenured Scientist) as co-chair, was praised by the international committee as one of the best in the history of the congress. The advanced instrumentation school, coordinated by Ana Ros and Fernando Hueso—also IFIC researchers—involved numerous institute groups. From preparing and delivering pre-congress workshops and courses, to welcoming international attendees through a young volunteer team, and with Carmen García and Andrés Gadea, CSIC Research Professors, serving as chairs of the Steering Committee, the institute’s commitment was recognized as a collective, exemplary effort that reinforces its role as a reference hub in this technological field.

Renowned scientists such as Yolanda Benito (CIEMAT), Peter Križan (University of Ljubljana), Alicia Sintes (University of the Balearic Islands), and José Mª Benlloch (i3M, CSIC-UPV) participated as invited plenary speakers. Two special events also took place: a talk on the formation of DANAs and their consequences by Vicent Altava (Applied Research and Modelling Scientist at the Meteorological Service of Catalonia), followed by a presentation on women in science by Carmen García, recipient of the 2024 National Blas Cabrera Science Award in the physics category. This session concluded with a round table featuring Pokhee Saharia (PhD student at UV) and Arantxa Ruiz (CSIC Tenured Scientist at IFIC).

The choice of Valencia as host city and IFIC as the organizing institution recognizes the institute’s prominent international role in the development of detection, data acquisition and radiation measurement technologies for applications in fundamental physics, nuclear energy, health, safety, and the environment. The ANIMMA scientific community especially valued IFIC’s trajectory and ongoing commitment to innovation in these areas, entrusting it with the organization of this edition.

The conference was supported by IFIC and its Severo Ochoa Excellence Program; the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MCIU) through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR-C17.I01), funded by the NextGenerationEU recovery instrument; the Generalitat Valenciana (GVANEXT) under ASFAE/COORD; and the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment (CIAORG/2024/073), along with the support of the Science Park of the University of Valencia.
