Mon, 30/06/2014 - 03:53

The senior editor of the prestigious journal Physical Review Letters, Robert Garisto, and the publishing editor of the pioneer magazine in Open Access New Journal of Physics, Simon Buckmaster, will visit the facilities of the Science Park of the University of Valencia on Thursday July 3rd, from 9:00 am. At 12:00 pm they will have a meeting with professors and researchers of the Faculty of Physics and the Science Park in a Conference and Round Table at the Auditorium of the Science Park (first floor of Edifici de Capçalera).

The visit, organized by the Faculty of Physics, University of Valencia, include various laboratories of IFIC, Instituto de Ciencia de los Materiales (ICMUV) and Instituto de Ciencia Molecular (ICMol). The joint conference will be followed by an open discussion with professors and researchers of the Faculty of Physics and the Science Park around the two models of scientific publishing represented by these two journals.

Robert Garisto, editor of Physical Review Letters, that depends on the American Physical Society, will give an insider's view of PRL, with special emphasis on its restrictive review process and how it has been affected since the magazine has increased their requirements on scientific quality, offering some practical tips on how to overcome it successfully. He will also discuss some issues concerning models of Open Access publishing.

On the other hand, Simon Buckmaster, publishing editor of New Journal of Physics, that belongs to the prestigious Institute of Physics and the German Physical Society, will explain how the process of digitization of publications introduced scientific benefits but also challenges to researchers and editors, and how the publications belonging to IOP have responded to these challenges. The NJP journal pioneered the development and standardization of the Open Access model.
