From January 26 to 30, one of the general meetings of the KM3NeT collaboration is being held at the ADEIT facilities of the University of Valencia. Over the course of its five days, more than 130 physicists and engineers from several countries will discuss topics related to the experiment’s physics and the collaboration’s strategy. KM3NeT is an international project focused on the construction and operation of neutrino telescopes in the Mediterranean Sea. A few months ago, the collaboration made headlines with the detection of the most energetic cosmic neutrino ever observed. “That success has given us great visibility, but it is crucial to continue producing high-quality scientific results,” says Juande Zornoza, Principal Researcher of the IFIC (CSIC-UV) group VEGA-KM3NeT.

During the meeting, the status of physics analyses will be discussed at an important moment ahead of the summer conferences, such as Neutrino 2026, one of the largest conferences in the field. The progress of the construction of new lines and the details of the strategy for building the remaining lines will also be reviewed. All of this reflects the great dynamism of the collaboration, which continues to move forward steadily. “Seeing how KM3NeT keeps growing —comments Agustín Sánchez, one of the meeting organizers— and producing data is very motivating. There is still a lot of work to do, but as we will see at this meeting, we already have interesting results that we will discuss in depth.”

A meeting of this scale is always a challenge, but according to Paco Salesa, the main organizer, it is also “a source of pride for our group. We hope it will be a very productive meeting. According to our estimates, this will be the KM3NeT meeting with the highest attendance.” The organizational effort will certainly be worthwhile. The meeting will, for sure, help to consolidate KM3NeT as a fundamental tool for neutrino research.
