IFIC organizes the 2025 edition of the TeVPA International Conference on Particle Astrophysics, held for the first time in Spain
The TeV Particle Astrophysics (TeVPA) conference series celebrated its 20th anniversary in Valencia, in an edition organized by researchers from various groups of the Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC), a joint center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Valencia.
TeVPA began in 2005 at the U.S. Fermilab. Since then, it has been held annually (except in 2020) at venues across four different continents. This year, it was held in Spain for the first time.
The scientific program of TeVPA 2025 covered interdisciplinary aspects of astrophysics, cosmology, and particle physics. Topics presented at the conference included the latest results in neutrino and gamma-ray astronomy, direct and indirect searches for dark matter, as well as the detection of gravitational waves and cosmic rays.
Several leading international experts reviewed the current status of these topics during the plenary sessions, which took place in the auditorium of the Bancaja Foundation. In the afternoons, parallel sessions were held at the ADEIT, the University-Business Foundation of the University of Valencia. Five parallel sessions ran simultaneously during the first four afternoons, featuring selected presentations from all submissions by participants. This selection was made by the 24 international conveners across eight thematic blocks in which the parallel sessions were organized.
The conference opening featured speeches by Nuria Rius Dionis (Director of IFIC), Amparo Querol Simón (representing the CSIC delegation in the Valencian Community), Carlos Hermenegildo Caudevilla (Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Valencia), and Rafael Sebastián Aguilar (General Director of Science and Research of the Valencian Government). This edition of TeVPA offered a total of 29 plenary talks (12 delivered by women) by distinguished researchers from Europe, Asia, and North America, 280 parallel talks (approximately 30% delivered by women), and around 30 posters.
This edition of TeVPA broke the series’ attendance record, attracting over 370 international participants. The local organizing committee, composed of researchers from both the Theoretical and Experimental Physics departments of IFIC, highlighted this success.
“The effort has been worth it. Both the quality and variety of the plenary talks, as well as the organization and scheduling of the parallel sessions, have been praised by many participants and the international scientific committee. The venues and social events were also highly appreciated. I believe this was a very fitting 20th anniversary for the series,” emphasized Sergio Palomares-Ruiz.
Olga Mena also highlighted that “it has been a truly rewarding and emotional experience. Since 2005, when Gianfranco Bertone and I organized the first conference, TeVPA has grown tremendously, adapting and expanding to include topics such as gravitational waves.”
Juan de Dios Zornoza added: “I have attended several editions of TeVPA, including the first two, and it has been a great joy to participate now as an organizer and see how it has grown since then. Both in terms of the topics covered and the quality of the speakers, I think it has been highly interesting and fruitful. We now proudly pass the baton to Japan.”
TeVPA 2026 was announced at the end of the conference by its main organizer, Aya Ishihara. The 21st edition of TeVPA will take place in Tendo, Japan, from August 30 to September 4, 2026.
