Dr. Javier Menéndez visits IFIC from Nov 13rd to 14rd, 2023.
He is a nuclear theorist working as Ramón y Cajal Fellow at the ICCUB since 2019. Before moving to Barcelona he has been Research Scientist and International Postdoctoral JSPS Fellow at the University of Tokyo (2014-19) and Research Associate at the Technical University Darmstadt (2010-14). His career started with a Ph.D. at the Autonomous University of Madrid in 2009. His research interests encompass nuclear theory at low energies. His work focuses on understanding the structure of atomic
nuclei from first principles, solving the quantum many-body dynamics rooted on quantum chromodynamics (QCD). He is especially interested in the nuclear structure relevant to answer fundamental physics questions:
why is the universe formed mainly by matter?, which is explored in a special nuclear decay called neutrinoless double-beta decay; or what is dark matter?, which is hunted in direct detection experiments using atomic nuclei as targets. In addition, recently he has become interested in solving the quantum many-body problem using the tools of quantum computing and entanglement.
