Our colleague Vicent Giménez has passed away
It is with great sadness that we inform that Vicent Giménez Gómez, professor at the Department of Theoretical Physics, passed away on November 16th. His death came unexpectedly, as he was in good health, and his family and friends are shocked and deeply saddened.
Vicent was a private man, a dedicated teacher, and an extremely conscientious researcher. His students uniformly praised his work and some of his notes have become common use at the faculty. He devoted most of his scientific career to lattice QCD, and during that time he collaborated regularly with groups in France and Italy. In recent years he had reoriented his research to simulations in medical physics, and his first publications in this field had recently come to light. It was always a pleasure to discuss physics with him, and there was honest fun in his attention to detail. Whoever came into his office often left having found out something they didn’t expect to find.
Vicent was also dedicated to his family and his closest friends, whose lives are left with a great void. The Faculty of Physics has lost an important piece of its mechanism and will have to learn to function without it. From IFIC we want to convey to his family and friends our most sincere condolences and all our support in these difficult days.
