Prof. Andreas Ringwald from DESY (Hamburg, Germany) visits IFIC from 21st to 24rd November 2023.

Andreas is a theoretical particle physicist. He completed his PhD on "Quantum field theory and the early universe" at the University of Heidelberg in 1988. He was a postdoctoral fellow at DESY and a junior staff member at CERN, where he worked on the theory and phenomenology of electroweak instanton-induced baryon- and lepton-number violating processes at very high energies. Since 1993 he is a permanent staff member at DESY, where he was working on a broad class of theoretical, phenomenological and cosmological questions, ranging from QCD-instanton induced processes at HERA to ultra-high energy cosmic neutrino induced processes at IceCube. Since 2003, the main focus of his work is on the theory and cosmology of axions and other weakly interaction slim particles beyond the standard model. In this context he was one of the initiators of a number of experiments in Hamburg, such as for example the light-shining-through-a-wall experiment ALPS, the solar hidden photon helioscope SHIPS, and the hidden photon haloscope WISPDMX.
