IFIC once again takes part in the Science for Industry forum

The Institute for Corpuscular Physics (IFIC), a joint center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of València, once again participated in the international Science for Industry (S4i) forum in its 2026 edition, held on January 28 and 29. IFIC teams coordinated by its Scientific Unit for Business Innovation (UCIE) presented two innovative technological prototypes, which had already been awarded in the latest edition of the CSIC Activa-T Hackathon, an initiative aimed at promoting scientific knowledge transfer and technological entrepreneurship.

Science for Industry (S4i) is the largest international event in Europe dedicated to connecting frontier science, industry, investment, and knowledge and technology transfer. The event brings together research centers, startups, companies, and investors with the goal of accelerating the arrival of innovation to the market and promoting technology transfer from scientific knowledge to real industrial applications.

Strengthening the transfer of scientific knowledge to society and the productive sector is one of IFIC’s strategic objectives, an explicit commitment that the center actively promotes within the framework of the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence project awarded for the 2024–2028 period. Through this project, IFIC reinforces its commitment to transforming frontier research results into technological solutions with real impact, fostering innovation, scientific entrepreneurship, and collaboration with industry.

Innovative prototypes

One of IFIC’s prototypes is being showcased at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) stand as part of a selection of 21 technological projects presented by the institution at this year’s edition, covering areas such as health, energy, new materials, and sustainability. The second development can be visited at the SOMMa Alliance stand, which brings together the country’s leading centers and units of scientific excellence and actively promotes the visibility of technologies with high industrial impact potential.

GN-Vision, presented by Víctor Babiano and Jorge Lerendegui, is a portable, non-invasive device for the advanced characterization of radioactive waste. It combines gamma-neutron detection, computerized imaging techniques, and artificial intelligence, enabling safer, more efficient, and more detailed identification in complex industrial environments. This disruptive technology will also enable the identification of actinides in this type of waste.

In Babiano’s words, “this forum has been a strategic platform to give visibility to the project and establish strategic contacts with potential users and investors,” he notes. “We are deeply grateful to CSIC for its support and for hosting us at its stand as one of the winning teams of the ACTIVA-T 2025 program; this boost is essential to accelerate our entry into the market.”

For its part, LINrem, presented by Ariel Tarifeño, is an innovative solution in neutron dosimetry and radiological protection aimed at hadron therapy, Big Science, and the nuclear industry. This technology contributes to safer and more precise clinical planning, strengthening radiological protection for patients and healthcare personnel.

“Representing IFIC as a Severo Ochoa center at the SOMMa stand has highlighted our R&D and knowledge transfer capabilities. The experience has been very positive: this event has allowed us to establish valuable connections with investors and potential users,” says Tarifeño.

In conclusion, IFIC’s participation in Science for Industry 2026 reinforces its commitment to the effective transfer of scientific knowledge, the valorization of excellence-driven research, and the promotion of entrepreneurial initiatives that connect science with the real needs of society and the productive sector, fully aligned with the strategic objectives of the Severo Ochoa project.
